3.05 Guiyang Dog Rescue –3.05 贵阳救狗
On the 5th of March 2013 there was a truck with full of more than 1300 caged dogs seen in Guiyang, just after the 3.02 Chongqing dog rescue. Volunteers from Guiyang who were driving back from the Chongqing rescue luckily saw the truck on the way back, and successfully stopped it in Xiouwen County in Guiyang, the capital city of the Guizhou Province. Brave volunteers made a team ASAP, with volunteers from Chongqing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Kunming, Shenzhen and Zunyi in Guizhou Province to go to Guiyang to help with the rescue. There were even teenage volunteers that were born after the 90’s and young volunteers born after 80’s who are alone at home but come to help the dogs out of the love in their hearts. Much of the older generation is hopeless and broken down after the Cultural Revolution, only wanting to earn money and not caring about the consequences of their actions.
These teenagers working so hard to help animals are the new hope of China. We not only want to save all of the abused animals, we also want to save the people in China. We greatly appreciate the Governor of Xiouwen, Mr.Huang, who was extremely supportive of the volunteers and the rescue of the dogs. Because of the sheer number of dogs, the local animal shelter did not have the equipment or resources to keep all 1300 of the dogs. Ms. Chen Yunlian, the Director and Founder of Aizhijia Animal Rescue Center in Chengdu, flew all the way from Chengdu to Guiyang on 6th of March to assist the volunteers and offer her experience with rescuing the dogs. Her shelter has more than 2000 rescued dogs that are well cared for. With the help of Ms. Chen, 432 of the rescued dogs were taken in by the Kunming Yixin Animal Rescue Center, who rescued 500 dogs in Kunming last year. Although their shelter is at full capacity, they offered to take 1/3 of the dogs from Guiyang. Another 400 went to Nanjing Pingan Arfu Animal Rescue Center in Nanjing, and another 408 dogs as well as injured dogs went all the way with Ms. Chen back to Chengdu, along with vet volunteers assisting her. Governor Huang issued a formal Government commission giving his authority to the three shelters to take the rescued dogs’ home without any trouble. He also ordered local policemen and quarantine officers to escort the shelters with their dogs a certain way of their journey to ensure their safety. As well as this, he organised his own party to come to up loading the dogs to the trucks back to their home cities and clean up the rescue scene to let the tired and hard working volunteers have a break. We greatly appreciate Governor Huang and his loving heart; he is the best example of a Governor for the whole of China. If more people were like him in China, the animal abuse situation would be much better. The dogs have all arrived safely and are settling down in their respective shelters. In this truck with 1300 dogs, there was one cat discovered that somehow passed the fake quarantine ‘certificate’.
In the last Chongqing dog rescue, a black sheep was found among the 1000 dogs and now this time a ginger cat was found. This cat was adopted by a volunteer from Shanghai, who had been at both the Chongqing and Guiyang dog rescues to help the dogs. He adopted this cat, now named Little Guiyang, named by a volunteer who had flown from Shenzhen to Chongqing, and then to Guiyang, having had no sleeps for a week and extremely tired. In the past week alone there has been four dog rescues in the cities of Chongqing, Guiyang, Shenyang and Changchun. It was so touching to see so many loving volunteers from many different places driving down to rescue these poor dogs.
So many successful rescues have been happening recently and this past week has been dubbed the Animal Rescue Revolution in China by the New York Post. However, these dognappers every day are capturing poor dogs between the streets. Animal protection shelters and volunteers are working so hard and are so tired, because apart from rescuing the dogs from the dognappers, volunteers in shelters have to treat and feed the dogs and make sure they are well cared for. They are all so determined and hard working, but are also tired and cannot keep rescuing dogs like this.
We urge the Chinese Government to make animal protection laws that will stop this from happening in the future.
We greatly thank and appreciate the volunteers in Guiyang, the shelters in Chengdu, Kunming and Nanjing and the animal lovers all over the world that help through the Weibo. These people have gone without sleep over many nights but are still so determined to help, we are so grateful for the love that they have for animals.
